K.KIRIKANE's uniqueness and the origin of its brand name lies in the traditional Japanese technique of “kirikane” (gold leaf cutting).

Originally, kirikane was applied to adorn Buddhist statues and paintings, as well as Buddhist altars (though fewer homes have them now), and the fittings of historical buildings.
It is also a magnificent technique used on transoms and other fittings in the Kyoto State Guest House within the Imperial Palace, which welcomes VIPs from around the world.

Its delicacy lies in cutting gold leaf—so fragile it could be blown away by a breath—into uniform strips using a bamboo knife, then applying them with a glue called kō. This demands perfection with no room for error, as the entire process is completed without any preliminary sketches.
